I saw this meme on nuckingfutz’s site. I had fun guessing hers, so I thought I would do my own! She still has a bunch of quotes left to be entitled, you should go try to guess hers as well.

UPDATE: I really doubt anyone is going to get the last one. It is a very memorable quote, but the movie vaguely obscure. I went ahead and filled in the title for #12. If you haven’t seen any of these movies, well you should, because I like them.

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.
5. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.

1. Boondock Saints – Mara Celes

Television. Television is the explanation for this – you see this in bad television. Little assault guys creeping through the vents, coming in through the ceiling – that James Bond shit never happens in real life! Professionals don’t do that!

2. Saved – D

1: There’s only one reason Christian girls comes down to the Planned Parenthood.
2: She’s planting a pipe bomb?
1: Okay, two reasons.

3. Lucky Number Slevin – Sara

1: This isn’t the first time this has happened, you know.
2: You mean this isn’t the first time a crime lord asked you to kill the gay son of a rival gangster to pay off a debt that belongs to a friend whose place you’re staying in as a result of losing your job, your apartment, and finding your girlfriend in bed with another guy?
1: No, this is the first time THAT happened, but Nick has been painting me into corners since we were kids.

4. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! – Sarah

Do you do everything you’re told?… oh, God. You do.

5. The Fifth Element – Karin

Whoa, lady, I only speak two languages, English and bad English. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for conversation, but maybe you could just shut up for a moment?

6. Pan’s Labyrinth – PK Tech Girl

1: 2, do you believe in fairies?
2: No. But when I was a little girl, I did. I believed in a lot of things I don’t believe anymore.
1: Last night a fairy visited me.

7. Spirited Away – devi

I finally get a bouquet and it’s a goodbye present. That’s depressing.

8. Serenity– LadyKuri

1: But it ain’t all buttons and charts, little albatross. You know what the first rule of flyin’ is? Well I suppose you do, since you already know what I’m about to say.
2: I do. But I like to hear you say it.
1: Love. You can know all the math in the ‘Verse, but take a boat in the air you don’t love, she’ll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells ya she’s hurtin’ ‘fore she keens. Makes her home.
2: Storm’s getting worse.
1: We’ll pass through it soon enough.

9. Chocolat – Karin

Do I want to speak of the miracle of our Lord’s divine transformation? Not really, no. I don’t want to talk about his divinity. I’d rather talk about his humanity. I mean, you know, how he lived his life, here on Earth. His *kindness*, his *tolerance*… Listen, here’s what I think. I think that we can’t go around… measuring our goodness by what we don’t do. By what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think… we’ve got to measure goodness by what we *embrace*, what we create… and who we include.

10. First Wives Club – Karin

Now, I ask you, X, who’s supposed to wear that? Some anorexic teenager? Some fetus? It’s a conspiracy, I know it is! I’ve had enough. I’m leading a protest. I’m not buying another article of clothing until these designers come to their senses!

11. Grosse Pointe Blank – elisabeth (sorry about walking my dog and leaving people in moderation)

They all have husbands and wives and children and houses and dogs, and, you know, they’ve all made themselves a part of something and they can talk about what they do. What am I gonna say? “I killed the president of Paraguay with a fork. How’ve you been?”

12. Grandma’s Boy Hilarious AdamSandler movie, made extra awesome by the fact that Adam Sandler isn’t in it!!!

If I’d known you were coming I would have trimmed my antlers!

13. Equilibrium – Buffpuff (with comment about how underrated it is FTW!)

In the first years of the 21st century, a third World War broke out. Those of us who survived knew mankind could never survive a fourth; that our own volatile natures could simply no longer be risked. So we have created a new arm of the law: The Grammaton Cleric, whose sole task it is to seek out and eradicate the true source of man’s inhumanity to man – his ability to feel

14. The Virgin Suicides – Betarraga

Doctor: What are you doing here, honey? You’re not even old enough to know how bad life gets.
1: Obviously, Doctor, you’ve never been a 13-year-old girl.

15. The Importance of Being Earnest – Nixie

I don’t know whether there is anything particularly exciting about the air in this particular part of Hartfortshire, but the number of engagements that go on seem to me to be considerably above the proper average that statistics have laid down for our guidance.

OK I really ought to stop bouncing among these, but #8 is Serenity!

  2. Karin permalink

    Same here, ladykuri 😉

Number 5 is from The Fifth Element, number 9 is from Chocolat, number 10 is First Wives Club.

I’m not sure about number 2: Could it be from Juno?

  3. Argh, y’all got the ones I know already!

  4. #2 is Saved, I think.

  5. Betarraga permalink

    14 is The Virgin Suicides!

  6. integgy permalink

    Is #2 from Saved?

And #15 is Pride and Prejudice.

  7. I’m thinking #2 is from Dogma, not sure.

#9 is Chocolat (just saw it for the first time this weekend, great movie)

#14 is My Girl, I think.

  8. #15 is not from P&P, and #14 is not from My Girl, it is from the Virgin SUicides.

Sorry, there were some guesses that went unapproved during my commute. I’ll try to keep up!

  9. nuckingfutz permalink

Oh, this is killing me. I know I’ve seen #1, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Is it… National Treasure? I could be way off base here, but I’m thinking it’s the FBI guy talking…?

  10. You are right about the FBI, wrong about the movie.

  11. Nixie permalink

#15 is The Importance of Being Earnest!

  12. I think No 13 is from the criminally underrated “Equilibrium”. Am I right?

  13. elisabeth permalink

    *sneaks in*

    11 is Grosse Pointe Blank!

    *sneaks out*

  14. iiii permalink

I think #11 is Grosse Point Blank.

  15. Oo! Ooo! Number 11 is Grosse Pointe Blank.

Seconding Grosse Point Blank for #11, and #6 is Pan’s Labyrinth.

  18. Mara Celes permalink

    #1 is “The Boondock Saints.”

  19. Nice Mara, I was wondering how that one took so long!

  20. sarah permalink

Is number 3 “Lucky Number Slevin?”

  21. nuckingfutz permalink

*smacks forehead* Boondock Saints!!! Why oh WHY didn’t I get that one? (And why the hell didn’t I think to put it on MY list???) :/

  22. Sarah permalink

#4 is Girls Just Want to Have Fun! I LOVE THAT MOVIE!! Good pick :]

  23. Karin permalink

Argh, why didn’t I think of Equilibrium? It’s one of my all-time favorite movies! And I too think that it’s criminally underrated.

  24. Criminally underrated pre-Batman Christian Bale. Plus that puppy always makes my heart go squick!

  25. Is #12 from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe?

  26. Nope. Reasonable guess though. I was waiting for someone to say Bambi.

  27. ladykuri permalink

Gah, I don’t know how I missed Grandma’s boy, I’ve seen it about 50 times (and recently!). Good movie, much MUCH better than the ads made it out to be!
